The news about land fires often affects not only the lives of the surrounding communities but also paints our country as a smoke exporter to neighboring nations. However, researchers from the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), have devised an early prevention mechanism known as the Forest and Land Fire Prevention Patrol Information System (SIPP Karhutla) - System Monitoring and Reporting Technology for Fire Prevention Patrol (SMART Patrol Information System).

The SIPP Karhutla serves as a tool supporting the implementation of forest and land fire prevention patrols in Indonesia. It consists of a mobile application for recording fire patrol data, a Database Management System for handling fire patrol data, and a Web-based Application for real-time monitoring of patrol activities, user management, reporting, and spatial data analysis for fire patrols.

Beyond developing the system and applications, the SIPP Karhutla has been officially designated as a reference for fire mitigation, included in the Directorate General of Climate Change Control Regulation No. P.10/PPI/SET/KUM.1/12/2020 regarding the Procedures for Using the Forest and Land Fire Prevention Patrol Information System (SIPP Karhutla). This system has been deployed to support fire prevention patrols in the Manggala Agni Operational Areas in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

Presently, the system's utilization has expanded to Sulawesi, Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara, and Maluku Papua regions. With the SIPP Karhutla in place, the management of fire prevention patrol data becomes more structured, aiding quicker decision-making processes concerning fire control. This stands as tangible evidence of IPB University's contribution in providing technology for forest and land fire prevention in Indonesia.

The development of the SIPP Karhutla - SMART Patrol Information System received funding from RISPRO LPDP and the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) Japan.
