Jakarta, January 23, 2024 - Environmental awareness remains a crucial attitude in addressing the current environmental crisis. This sentiment was exemplified by 313 awardees of the Education Fund Management Agency (LPDP) who conducted the "Peduli Marunda" (Caring for Marunda) initiative at Marunda Beach, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta on Thursday (18/1).
The Peduli Marunda initiative included beach cleaning activities, mangrove planting, and the promotion of waste problem-solving in the Marunda Beach environment. Over 100 participants enthusiastically took part in the beach cleaning, collaborating with 25 members of World Clean-up Day (WCD), a non-profit organization focused on environmental health.
During the mangrove planting activity, 100 seedlings were planted along Marunda Beach by the hundreds of awardees involved in the Pre-Departure Preparation (PK) 222 Nuraga Tiyasa. Meanwhile, the waste management awareness event was attended by approximately 25 residents from Block B Pantai Marunda apartments.
The waste management awareness session emphasized the importance of residents segregating organic and non-organic waste. This is expected to facilitate the waste processing process to achieve a better environmental sustainability.
The Peduli Marunda event also served as a commemoration of Ocean Day, which falls on January 15 every year. With the theme "T(w)o Struggle To Ocean," the goal was to increase the awareness of PK-222 Nuraga Tiyasa members, especially, and coastal communities in general, regarding the cleanliness and sustainability of life along the Indonesian coastline.
The National Board of Zakat of the Republic of Indonesia (BAZNAS RI) participated as a partner in the Peduli Marunda event. At 2:00 PM, Mokhamad Mahdum, the Vice Chairman ofÂ
BAZNAS, officially opened the Peduli Marunda event.
Mahdum explained the importance of planting mangrove seedlings to foster a sense of care for the residents living along the Marunda Beach coast, specifically, and for all of Indonesia in general.
As a former LPDP executive from 2011 to 2019, Mahdum expressed hope that the future graduates of PK-222 Nuraga Tiyasa would contribute to the nation as future leaders.
Meanwhile, Pramwidya Mazmur Novia, the Head of the Sub-Division for Pre-Departure Preparation and Scholarship Recipients at LPDP, expressed hope that the Peduli Marunda social project would mark the beginning of various social activities that PK-222 Nuraga Tiyasa would engage in the future.
BAZNAS also provided free healthcare services attended by residents from RW 07 and RW 11 Pantai Marunda. Health check-ups conducted by doctors from the Health House of BAZNAS (RSB) included blood pressure, cholesterol, uric acid, blood sugar checks, and eye examinations. Various medications were distributed free of charge to residents based on their health diagnoses.
The event was attended by local officials and representatives from Pantai Marunda Village and the North Jakarta Environmental Services.
PK-222 Nuraga Tiyasa comprises 127 males and 186 females, with 275 pursuing master's degrees and 38 pursuing doctorates, spread across various domestic and international campuses.
The social project conducted by PK-222 Nuraga Tiyasa is part of a series of tasks that must be fulfilled by prospective LPDP scholarship awardees before departing for their studies at their designated campuses.
Social projects are undertaken after the Pre-Departure Preparation activities are completed, allowing each PK generation to determine the community-focused activities they wish to contribute to.
