Jakarta, June 19, 2023 - In appreciation of scientists, experts, or practitioners who have contributed significantly to the advancement of science and technology, the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) have launched the Research and Innovation Talent Appreciation Program.
There are five programs under the Research and Innovation Talent Appreciation, namely the Habibie Prize, Indonesia Innovator Award, Sarwono Award, Siwabessy Award, and Nurtanio Award. In addition to the awards, there are three selected scientific orations gathered in the Sarwono Prawirohardjo Memorial Lecture, G.A. Siwabessy Memorial Lecture, and Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo Memorial Lecture.
In his address, LPDP's CEO, Andin Hadiyanto, expressed LPDP's commitment to support this appreciation program. A budget of Rp3.675 billion is ready to be distributed to the winners, with each Prize/Award receiving an appreciation prize of Rp400 million, and each memorial lecture receiving Rp25 million.
"LPDP, as a perpetual education fund management institution, is proud to participate in appreciating research and innovation talents," said Andin Hadiyanto. He added that this support is one of the responsibilities for managing the Research Endowment Fund, which LPDP currently manages, reaching Rp12.99 trillion.
Meanwhile, BRIN Head, Laksana Tri Handoko, conveyed his gratitude and appreciation to LPDP and the Ministry of Finance for supporting research and innovation in Indonesia through sustainable management of the Endowment Fund.
BRIN is currently focused on forming a research talent ecosystem. The appreciation awards will be based on achievements curated by third parties. Various evaluation aspects, such as reputable journal publications, intellectual achievements, licenses, and more, will be considered.
"We all hope that through this scheme, researchers and academics in Indonesia will be more motivated to increase public literacy on the importance of science, research, and innovation, especially to achieve Indonesia's Golden Future in 2045," concluded Handoko.
The launch event of the Research and Innovation Talent Appreciation Program took place at the Sumitro Djojohadikoesoemo Auditorium, 3rd Floor, BRIN Building, Jln. MH Thamrin No.8, Central Jakarta on Monday (19/6). Starting at 10:00 AM WIB, the event was also broadcasted live on the BRIN Indonesia YouTube channel.
About the Awards
Habibie Prize
Since 1999, the Habibie Award has been given by the SDM-IPTEK Foundation to individuals who have been active and highly meritorious in the discovery, development, and dissemination of various innovative science and technology activities that significantly contribute to the improvement of prosperity, justice, and peace. Now, with the collaboration between the SDM-IPTEK Foundation, LPDP, and BRIN, the Habibie Award has been renamed the Habibie Prize.
The awards given in the Habibie Prize program cover five fields of science and innovation, namely:
- Basic Sciences;
- Medicine and Biotechnology;
- Engineering Sciences;
- Economics, Social, Political, and Legal Sciences;
- Philosophy, Religion, and Culture Sciences.
Indonesia Innovation Award
The Indonesia Innovator Award, formerly known as the BPPT Innovation Award, has been held since 2018 by the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT). As a driver and motivation for those involved in innovation and technology application, the Indonesia Innovation Award will be given to individuals or groups capable of providing real technological breakthroughs to enhance the domestic industry's capacity.
Nurtanio Award
The Nurtanio Award is a form of appreciation for individuals, figures, scientists, and experts (companies, industries, academics, professionals) who have achieved extraordinary achievements and innovations and have shown special attention to the aviation and space sector in Indonesia. Accompanying this award is the Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo Memorial Lecture, a scientific lecture in the field of aviation and space presented by individuals who have contributed significantly to the development of science and technology, especially in the field of aviation and space in Indonesia.
Sarwono Award
The Sarwono Award provides "a lifetime achievement" appreciation to individuals who have outstanding achievements and contributions in the field of science and technology and have an impact on research that is beneficial to society, either through Intellectual Property (IP) or other forms of research collaboration with partners. Accompanying this award is the Sarwono Prawirohardjo Memorial Lecture, which is a scientific oration presented by individuals who have contributed to the discovery, development, and dissemination in the field of science and technology and have made contributions to society and the nation of Indonesia.
Siwabessy Award
The Siwabessy Award is given to individuals and figures who have achieved various achievements and innovations in the field of nuclear energy in Indonesia. Accompanying this award is the G.A. Siwabessy Memorial Lecture, which is a scientific oration presented by individuals who have made contributions to the discovery, development, and dissemination in the field of science and nuclear energy and have contributed to society and the nation of Indonesia.
