Commercial

Commercial RISPRO funding is a research funding that operates as a competition. It generates product/technology outcomes ready for commercialization, involves manufacturing partners who will commercialize the research outcomes, and is expected to transform prototypes into new products/technologies that meet industry standards or have certification.

Output

The main outputs of Commercial RISPRO funding consist of:

  1. Products or Technologies
  2. Intellectual Property (IP)
  3. Scientific Publications

Criteria

  1. The proposed Commercial RISPRO must be carried out within the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
  2. The proposed Commercial RISPRO has been selected in accordance with LPDP regulations by the institution overseeing the RISPRO Proposer and has obtained approval or endorsement.
  3. The proposer of the Commercial RISPRO consists of multidisciplinary researchers.
  4. The proposer of the Commercial RISPRO is led by a researcher holding a minimum doctoral degree or equivalent qualification (according to the Indonesian National Qualification Framework standards) and has a research track record in line with the RISPRO proposal.
  5. The lead researcher is not currently pursuing further studies or other academic activities such as academic recharging programs, postdocs, etc.
  6. The proposer of the Commercial RISPRO must have a Commercial RISPRO Partner within a certain timeframe and contribute in the form of financial participation and/or other forms, assessable in monetary value (cash/in-kind), of at least 10% (ten percent) of the proposed funding to LPDP.
  7. The commitment of the Commercial RISPRO Partner must be expressed in a statement of commitment.
  8. Each Researcher can only receive RISPRO funding once within the same period, either as the lead researcher or as a member.
  9. The proposed RISPRO must have a commercial feasibility study related to the produced product or technology.
  10. The proposed RISPRO must have relevant Intellectual Property (IP) registration documents.
  11. The proposed RISPRO must have achieved a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 5 or more, evidenced by a self-assessment document on the readiness level based on the instrument applicable to the ministry responsible for research, technology, and higher education affairs, along with supporting documents proving TRL indicators fulfillment.

Partner

Industries, SMEs, cooperatives, startup companies, or businesses under universities, which are committed to commercializing the outcomes of the RISPRO, either directly or indirectly within a certain timeframe, and contribute through financial participation and/or other measurable forms, such as cash or in-kind contributions.

Amount and Conditions of Funding

  1. The amount of Commercial RISPRO Funding with outcomes in the form of products or technology intended for commercialization is capped at a maximum of IDR 2,000,000,000 (two billion Indonesian Rupiah) per title per year.

  2. The funding allocation for RISPRO is determined per component as follows:

    1. Direct Costs of at least 95% (ninety-five percent) of the Funding, comprising Personnel Direct Costs (Salaries and/or Honorariums) and Non-Personnel Direct Costs structured based on research activities to achieve research outcomes according to applicable regulations.

    2. Indirect Costs of up to 5% (five percent) of the Funding, including internal monitoring costs, administrative expenses, and/or other costs (such as institutional development costs) to support research activities as per applicable rules.

  3. The RISPRO Funding amount allocated by the RISPRO Proposer already includes taxes.

  4. The Commercial RISPRO Funding can be allocated for:

    1. Research team honorariums;

    2. Labor wages;

    3. Procurement of consumable items such as raw materials, production components, or office supplies;

    4. Organizing or participating in Focus Group Discussions (FGD), capacity-building, training, surveys, socialization, seminars, dissemination, exhibitions, or expos;

    5. Domestic travel;

    6. Consultation fees for experts, speakers, or respondents;

    7. Product or technology certification registrations/management such as Intellectual Property (IP) management and Indonesian National Standards (SNI);

    8. Registration of scientific articles for publication in national or international journals; and

    9. Duplication, binding, or printing for reporting purposes.

    10. Laboratory equipment rental;

    11. Land/animal rental for observation or testing purposes;

    12. Laboratory or industrial testing services;

    13. Market testing;

    14. Purchase/acquisition of production infrastructure such as machinery and equipment;

    15. Registration/management of permits related to the establishment of industries, production, distribution, and commercialization of products or technologies; and

    16. International travel can only be done once a year for RISPRO Funding to attend seminars/conferences/exhibitions related to the registered intellectual property.

  5. RISPRO Funding cannot be used for the following:

    1. Land/property purchases;

    2. Operational vehicle purchases;

    3. Building construction;

    4. Guarantees and loans to third parties;

    5. Cash-based grants or assistance to other parties or the community;

    6. Purchase/acquisition of communication tools, including credit/top-ups; and

    7. Other uses not approved by the LPDP.

  6. The RISPRO Funding for proposer salaries and/or honorariums has a maximum of 30% of the total funding and is regulated with the highest cost unit as follows:

Time period

  1. The funding period is up to 3 (three) years;
  2. In case of technology transfer/preparation for utilizing RISPRO outcomes, the research period can be extended by 1 (one) year based on the reviewer's recommendation.
  3. The duration of RISPRO funding takes into account the minimum readiness level of RISPRO funding;
